Fifa's decision to suspend India's football association has cast a shadow over the future of the sport and its players in the country. The ban, which was just announced, may prevent India from hosting the women's Under-17 World Cup, which was set to begin on 11 October.

India's Supreme Court asked the federal government to take proactive steps to ensure that the suspension is lifted and the World Cup goes ahead according to plan. Fifa said it suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to undue interference by a third party.

The football world got together to pay homage to former player, Lenny Johnrose, whose death was recently announced.

The former Blackburn Rovers player, who 502 game playing career also included spells at Preston North End, Hartlepool and Swansea City and Bury, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) - a disease that affects the brain and nerves for which there is no cure - in 2017.

A wide range of sports equipment used by teams and athletes across all of the venues during the Commonwealth Games will be gifted to local sport and community groups in the West Midlands. In a join-up between Sport England, the Birmingham 2022 organisers and the Department for Digital, Culture Media & Sport (DCMS), over 16,000 sports items - including bikes, martial arts mats, weights, T20 cricket equipment, basketballs, boxing gloves and weights, as well as general equipment, such as cones and bibs - will all be made available.  

Ashleigh Nelson will captain the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the European Championships in Munich, Germany. The 2014 European 100m bronze medallist, who was also part of the 4x100m relay gold medal winning squad at those Championships in Zurich, will lead the team at the 2022 edition in Munich.

Qatar Airways is celebrating 100 days to go until the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 by bringing Qatar to fans through ‘The Journey Tour’, an interactive bus tour across Europe providing several lucky winners with a chance to attend the world’s biggest sporting tournament this winter.

Kicking off in London on 13 August, Qatar Airways will host ‘The Journey Tour,’ which will feature several interactive experiences for fans, including the opportunity to test their skills against the incredibly talented Neymar Jr., to learn more about the history of Qatar and the FIFA World Cup, and to meet Sama, the first-ever MetaHuman cabin crew.

UK Athletics can confirm that Anna Purchase has been added to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Championships, while there have been some further changes to the squad for Munich. 

Purchase moved to second on the UK all-time standings in the women’s hammer earlier this year when she threw 70.63m in California in April. She joins Jessica Mayho and Charlotte Payne in the competition.

The regional tour was made even more significant as it represented the Queen’s Baton returning home, as it was designed and manufactured in an innovative West Midlands collaboration that fused art, technology, and science.

Marfa Ekimova made history for England by winning their first ever gold medal in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around final at the Commonwealth Games, scoring 112.300 overall.

The 17-year-old led from the start, top-scoring in the hoop and clubs. An exciting final went to the wire with Cyprus' Anna Sokolova chasing Ekimova's score until the final discipline.
