A wide range of sports equipment used by teams and athletes across all of the venues during the Commonwealth Games will be gifted to local sport and community groups in the West Midlands. In a join-up between Sport England, the Birmingham 2022 organisers and the Department for Digital, Culture Media & Sport (DCMS), over 16,000 sports items - including bikes, martial arts mats, weights, T20 cricket equipment, basketballs, boxing gloves and weights, as well as general equipment, such as cones and bibs - will all be made available.  

Qatar Airways is celebrating 100 days to go until the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 by bringing Qatar to fans through ‘The Journey Tour’, an interactive bus tour across Europe providing several lucky winners with a chance to attend the world’s biggest sporting tournament this winter.

Kicking off in London on 13 August, Qatar Airways will host ‘The Journey Tour,’ which will feature several interactive experiences for fans, including the opportunity to test their skills against the incredibly talented Neymar Jr., to learn more about the history of Qatar and the FIFA World Cup, and to meet Sama, the first-ever MetaHuman cabin crew.

UK Athletics can confirm that Anna Purchase has been added to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Championships, while there have been some further changes to the squad for Munich. 

Purchase moved to second on the UK all-time standings in the women’s hammer earlier this year when she threw 70.63m in California in April. She joins Jessica Mayho and Charlotte Payne in the competition.

The tiny British Overseas Territory of Anguilla in the eastern Caribbean, home to just 14,000 residents, fielded its largest ever Commonwealth squad at Birmingham 2022.

The island is likely to be better known to Brits as a dream holiday destination given its location in a quiet corner of the eastern Caribbean and its 33 dazzling white-sand beaches.

With a record-breaking crowd of close to 6,000 spectators attending the 2022 British Basketball League Trophy Finals at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena earlier this year, the British Basketball League (BBL) are delighted to confirm the WBBL/BBL Trophy Finals will be returning to Scotland for next year’s Finals, with tickets available via pre-sale on 17th August.

Watching on as the very first performers stepped out during the Opening Ceremony, and there until the final medal was awarded, Birmingham 2022’s fans have been cheering on the world-class athletes throughout the Games.

Showing their support for teams across all Commonwealth nations and territories, Birmingham’s fans have been showing up in their great numbers to watch and cheer on the Games.

The 2022 Grenada Rugby World 7s (GRW7s) tournament will be held in the Spice Island.

Set for December 2-3, 2022, at Grenada’s Cricket Stadium, rugby teams from Canada, England, Fiji, France, Scotland, the United States and Wales are expected to compete for prize money and the coveted winner’s titles that are up for grabs.

The Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee becomes the first organisation to receive the Bronze, Silver and now Gold Deaf-friendly Standard. There have been over 260 gold medals awarded to athletes from over 25 different nations so far at the Games and the Birmingham Games 2022 itself is also joining them in receiving a gold standard of its own.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have brought out the very best of the West Midlands and attracted more than a million visitors, wowing locals and tourists alike at the biggest sports event to be held in the UK in a decade.

The city and the region has truly embraced Birmingham 2022, whether it’s more than 500,000 West Midlands residents buying tickets – helping to make this the best-attended Commonwealth Games ever in the UK – or the 14,000 volunteers all doing their part to welcome visitors to Birmingham.

The regional tour was made even more significant as it represented the Queen’s Baton returning home, as it was designed and manufactured in an innovative West Midlands collaboration that fused art, technology, and science.

Coventry-based boxing apparel company BOXRAW have kitted out the Anguilla team participating at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. In a game-changing donation, BOXRAW stepped in to provide top-quality training and competition kit for the Anguilla team after they were nearly forced to pull out of the Games due to a lack of kit.
