As the Thomas Jefferson Memorial turned 80 on April 13, its stewards took steps to ensure that visitors can continue to enjoy it and the beauty of the Tidal Basin where it is situated for decades to come.

The Tidal Basin, adjacent to the National Mall, is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, attracting huge crowds each spring when its cherry blossom trees — a gift from Japan to the United States — are in bloom. The Jefferson Memorial, dedicated in 1943 to the third U.S. president and principal author of the Declaration of Independence, anchors the site.

The Khanh Hoa Study & Talent Promotion Fund has become the latest benefactor of The International Series philanthropic drive, receiving a donation of US$25,000 that will help support scholarships for students, teachers and those in need. KN Golf Links duly matched the donation, adding more financial support to the noble cause.

I decided to adopt a practice from my father, which is to dig into the archives of some of the brilliant presentations of Caribbean statesmen and women, none the least of which is Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, whom many would yield as the Caribbean’s chief spokesperson on global affairs.

While watching a video on Instagram, I found it interesting that the voice of the Prime Minister served as a narration to drive home the importance of our Caribbean identity. I explored further and discovered it was taken from the PM’s presentation at an Inter-American Development Bank virtual event during the heart of the pandemic.

More than 20 years after Apple products entered Indian markets, the tech giant is finally set to open its first stores in the country.

The two stores - in capital Delhi and India's financial hub Mumbai - will be inaugurated later this month. Bloomberg has reported that Apple chief Tim Cook is likely to visit India next week for the occasion.

The Central Bank is reporting that Jamaica’s inflation rate is decreasing. Data from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) shows that the rate, which peaked at 11.8 per cent in April 2022, fell to 7.8 per cent in February 2023.

Speaking during a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ‘Think Tank’, Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) senior deputy governor, Dr Wayne Robinson, said this has resulted from the BOJ’s monetary policy actions as well as lower imported commodity prices and indicated: “We actually responded very swiftly, early and decisively to the increase… that we’ve been seeing… which was actually spurred by rising inflation globally”.
