People in the West Midlands are invited to join Parkinson’s UK at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Saturday 22 July 2023 for a fundraising walk to help fund vital research to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s.

There are 145,000 people living with Parkinson’s in the UK. Every hour, two more people in the UK are diagnosed. Walk for Parkinson's is the charity's national community fundraising series, and everyone is encouraged to get involved to get active, meet new people, and help fund life-changing research.

The Walk for Parkinson’s event offers distances to suit everyone where you can explore the stunning woodlands and lakes of Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe. There are two routes to choose from:

  • a shorter, family friendly two mile route which is fully accessible
  • a six mile route for those wanting to take on more of a challenge

Walkers will warm up together, walk together, and finish together as they start and finish with other members of the Parkinson’s community. There’s no cure for Parkinson’s – yet - but walking together can make a difference to the lives of people with the disease and make breakthroughs.

As the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, Parkinson’s is what happens when the brain cells that make dopamine start to die. There are more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety. Some are treatable, but the drugs can have serious side effects. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet.

With around 145,000 people in the UK have Parkinson’s, Parkinson's UK is here for everyone affected by the condition.
