Former Walsall College Construction student, Claire Brittain, was presented with the Rising Star honour at the 2016 Women in Construction Awards. Assistant Site Manager at BAM Construction, Claire, said: “I feel really flattered to have received this award as there were a lot of nominees shortlisted. I hope that I can help me be a good role model to other females considering entering the construction industry.”

Themed events organised by HND Hospitality Management students at Walsall College, which have given students their first taste of running events, come with a promise of great food and entertainment. The broad themes include a vintage afternoon tea party (20th April), Spanish night with tapas (27th April) and Star Wars themed evening (4th May) with an international buffet.

Young people in Birmingham have less than six weeks to apply for an apprenticeship with leading construction company Novus Property Solutions. The maintenance, refurbishment and new build contractor, which has an office on Walsall Road in the city, has been inundated with applications after embarking upon its annual search for the brightest and best apprentices around the UK, with Birmingham one of 13 of the company’s selected locations.

A new report by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers is calling for a major rethink about the role of schools and colleges in promoting engineering. The ‘Big Ideas: the future of engineering in schools’ report, supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering, reflects the views of leading engineering education experts and key stakeholders such as employers, parents and pupils.
