Qantas is set to add to its list of aviation firsts, with the national carrier confirming it will operate non-stop flights from Perth to London using the 787-9 Dreamliner. The 14,498 kilometre service will be the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia with Europe when it begins in March 2018. Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said the history-making route would be a watershed for travel, tourism and trade.

The Caribbean must ensure issues of critical socioeconomic importance are firmly addressed with the U.S. Congress and the incoming administration, according to Karolin Troubetzkoy, President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association. Troubetzkoy commented on this during her presentation on the impact on the tourism industry of de-risking and correspondent banking relationships at the 40th Annual Conference on the Caribbean and Central America in Miami, produced by the Caribbean-Central American Action (CCAA) organization.

The United States Virgin Islands Department of Tourism made a strong foray into the Los Angeles, California market last week. Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty stated that the U.S. Virgin Islands has been encouraged by the number of visitors from the California market in recent years, and the Department was hoping to grow this market. "Last year we welcomed more than 31,000 stay-over visitors from California and we will focus on increasing these numbers by pursuing a more active presence on the West Coast," the Commissioner noted.
