Dental staff can get up-to-date with their mandatory training with a one day session delivered by industry practitioners on Saturday 14th May. Taking place at Walsall College’s new £11m world class training centre, The Hub, the one day Dental Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course covers a number of core units including infection control, radiation protection and safeguarding, and costs just £15.

During a visit to their local Co-operative Food store, Walsall College Business and Marketing students picked up some top marketing tips and gained an insight into the brand behind the UK’s fifth largest food store. Students visited the recently launched central Walsall store, where they heard from managers about the firm’s history, from how it first started to its rapid growth today, where it has amassed over 2,800 stores including one in every UK postal code.

It was an extraordinary day this week when BAFTA award winning actress, TV writer and star of the hit sitcom ‘Spaced’, Jessica Hynes, dropped into Walsall College to meet Supported Learning Performing Arts students. The actress, who has worked on TV shows and films including W1A, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Bridget Jones’ Diary and The Royle Family, announced an offer via her Twitter account to visit 20 state schools to encourage young people to enter the acting and screenwriting professions.

Over half of West Midlands parents are worried their child will not be ready to start school at the age of five, according to a poll from Action for Children. The survey of over 1000 parents in the UK also found that of these worried parents 62% in the West Midlands were concerned that if their child started school behind their peers, they would remain behind – which can seriously impact their ability to do well in education and find a good job in later life.

Five Automotive students at Walsall College are gearing up to test their skills against other students in the regional heat of the national IMI Skill Auto competition, after making it through the qualifying round with some of the highest scores in the country. Run by the Institute of the Motor Industry, Skill Auto aims to find the top new talent within the industry in Automotive Body Repair, Vehicle Refinishing and Automotive Technology.

Leading home assistance company HomeServe is organising two open days as part of an ongoing recruitment drive to serve its Customers, with around 100 roles available. HomeServe, which only recently launched a giant recruitment push for more than 160 new engineers nationwide, is seeking talented people from across the region to join its award-winning Customer contact centre.
