The 2016 Ibiza season is officially underway, with the spectacular Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel kicking off proceedings. From midday to the last light of the famously flammable stage, the crowd hit full capacity in what was a spectacular and memorable opening party. Known for pulling out all the stops with her musical anthems, Maya Jane Coles took to the stage with a sophisticated deep house set, with Joris Voorn also on hand to maintain the techno momentum. Performances also came from the inimitable Hot Since 82 who has seen a meteoric rise over the years as well as Ibiza favourite Guy Gerber, while Spanish DJ duo Los Suruba delivered a typically darker-leaning assault on the dancefloor. Bringing charm and sophistication to the table was Hito, who provided an inspiring set with Ushuaïa favourite Andrea Olivia - blazing through the Balearic sun and thus proving their position as part of the real underground elite.
Event headliner and techno visionary - Richie Hawtin - created a dance floor explosion as the day came to a climax, with a truly spell-binding set that perfectly demonstrated his unique yet minimal sound. Building up to a powerful crescendo, the overpowering rhythms were briefly accompanied by an unexpected shower from the Balearic skies which descended over a mass of faithful Ushuaïa revellers. A short yet fitting interlude into what was an omnipotent closing act, the club's opening party certainly set the standard for the season ahead.
With the venue bathed in every colour, the dancers clothed in mesmerizing costume and the audience lit by pyrotechnics, not even a short rain shower could deter the dance of a full attendance, establishing the dominance of Ushuaïa upon the White Isle. Between the palpable combination of the stunning open-air club and the unbeatable line ups featured on the ultimate party calendar, the White Isle can expect the best from Ushuaïa - accredited as the only place to be this summer.
