The prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is coming to Wolverhampton Art Gallery later this month. Visitors to the Lichfield Street gallery can take in some of the world’s most astonishing sights and see nature at its most staggering in this blockbuster show, which runs from Saturday, July 23 to Sunday, September 18. Now in its 51st year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition provides a showcase for the world’s very best nature photography.
The resulting exhibition is put together by the world-renowned and trusted British institution, the Natural History Museum in London. The exhibition, visiting Wolverhampton as part of a worldwide tour, boasts more than 75 of the 100 stunning images that form the full collection. Councillor John Reynolds, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “It is a great honour for Wolverhampton Art Gallery to be hosting this world-famous exhibition.
“Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most prestigious photography event of its kind, providing a global platform that showcases the natural world’s most astonishing and challenging sights for more than 50 years. I would urge anyone to go and enjoy these incredible pictures from across the globe. The exhibition coincides with the school holidays and I have no doubts the kids will be wowed by these images.”
Founded in 1964, it is one of the longest and most prestigious photography competitions in the world. This year the competition again received more than 40,000 submissions from amateur and professional photographers from more than 95 countries, all of whom were competing for the title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Every year, the best images submitted are selected to form the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, which tours venues across the world to millions of visitors, helping to ensure that biodiversity and sustainability remain at the forefront of public awareness.
