The University of Wolverhampton Business School held a high-profile event recently which brought key local stakeholders together to focus on climate change for national Earth Day. The collaborative event was held at the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University’s £120 million Springfield Campus which is a major local brownfield regeneration project.
The event focused on ‘SME Responsibility in Reaching Net Zero’ and brought together academics, industry, businesses and government representatives to discuss the delivery of net zero. Representatives from the West Midlands Combined Authority, Wolverhampton Homes and Wilmott Dixon as well as members of business support programmes and SME practitioners gathered for a series of talks and presentations.
Hajrija Dergić, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University, said: “Our Business School, with an expert contribution from its Management Research Centre, successfully delivered this inaugural sustainability conference.
“The event was designed for businesses in the community as part of our new ‘Innopreneurial’ support portfolio for organisations and individuals across different sectors. It connects enterprises with key academic and non-academic stakeholders, helping to expose our students to real business challenges and identify collaborative opportunities whether it be through research, curriculum innovation, placements and executive education.”
Richard Davies MBE, Knowledge Transfer Manager for the University’s Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) Incubator, said: “I had the privilege of chairing a brilliant event on Earth Day 2022 which focused on SME Responsibility in Reaching Zero Carbon and it proved to be hopeful, inspiring & great fun.
“The combination of a return to three-dimensional interaction with clever, interesting speakers and participants, a practical and inspiring set of insight and stories, made it a great event. Just the ticket at a time when we all need to be a bit more glass half full.”
