A major conference designed to help businesses boost productivity through improved leadership and people management is being hosted by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce this month. A line-up of high-profile of speakers - including Birmingham 2022 chief executive Ian Reid and the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Race Equality Taskforce chair Yetunde Dania – will address delegates at the Chamber’s Growth Through People conference at the Eastside Rooms, Birmingham on 30 March.

The conference will offer firms the opportunity to learn from keynote speakers, expert panellists and interactive workshops. Ian Reid, who has overseen the establishment of the Organising Committee for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will discuss his experience of organisational and regional leadership.

He has a wealth of Games, finance and commercial experience, having served as chief financial officer and company secretary for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games from 2009 to 2015, leading the Corporate Services and Support Functions including finance, legal, procurement, HR, programme management and office management. Yetunde Dania, a partner and head of Birmingham office at law firm Trowers & Hamlins, was appointed to chair the WMCA’s taskforce set up to improve equality of opportunity for all communities across the West Midlands.

She will be sharing her personal leadership journey, as well as sharing advice for businesses on inspiring the next generation of leaders and discussing the role of the Race Equality Taskforce. Other speakers at the conference include Dr Justin Varney, director of public health at Birmingham City Council, Lisa Powney, senior consultant at Curium Solutions Limited, and Karl George MBE, managing director at the Governance Forum Ltd  and partner at RSM UK.

Emily Stubbs, policy and campaigns manager at the GBCC, said: “The Growth Through People Conference will give local businesses inspirational perspectives, best practice insights and practical tools to ensure they are able to support, develop and get the most out of their greatest asset – their people.

“We very much look forward to hearing from this year’s incredible speakers, and their expert insights on topics from supporting mental health in the future of work, to attracting and engaging talent and better enabling inclusivity.

“Delegates can expect to leave the conference with exciting and actionable new ideas to boost their business’s productivity and growth.”

The 2022 Growth Through People campaign is delivered in partnership with and sponsored by Aston University, Birmingham City Council, South and City College Birmingham and the West Midlands Combined Authority.
