Water Saving Week, run by Waterwise, aims to raise awareness of the issues around water use and help people understand the value of water, so they can use it wisely.

Bromford, which is providing a range of properties for local people in the West Midlands, is committed to making sure its homes are water and energy efficient, in a way that is beneficial to both the environment and homeowners’ wallets.

Catherine Jarrett, Director of Sales and Marketing at Bromford, said: “We have always had strong ecological values at Bromford, and also strive to support our customers to the best of our ability. As a result, we thought sending out these tips would be a very helpful thing to do on both fronts.

“Hopefully, our top tips prove useful to people as we see increased pressure on our spending. It’s more important than ever to get the most out of every pound spent, as having a little more money to spend somewhere else or save is always a good thing.”

  1. Use a washing-up bowl
When washing your dishes, or cleaning fruit and veg, be sure not to simply leave the tap running. Filling up a washing up bowl to complete the task can drastically reduce the amount of water used.
  1. Turn off the tap

It’s easy to simply leave the tap on as you absentmindedly brush your teeth shortly after waking up or going to bed, but remembering to turn the tap off, unless you’re actively using it, will soon accrue significant savings on your water bill.

  1. Swap your bath for a shower
Take a shower instead of having a bath, as a shower is liable to use much less water. This not only minimises the amount of water waste, but also helps to avoid unnecessary money spent on water bills.
  1. Fill up your washing machine
Load up your washing machine and dishwasher as much as possible before turning it on. Waiting until you can fill up these appliances will make sure that you get the most out of each wash, wasting as little water as possible.
  1. Swap your sprinkler for a watering can
Sprinklers are notoriously inefficient with water. According to Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, garden sprinklers and hosepipes left running can use between 500 and 1,000 litres of water an hour. Using what you know you need with a watering can will be healthier for your garden and wallet.

Bromford provides a range of Shared Ownership and outright sale homes across the West Midlands. Shared Ownership gives those who do not currently own a property the chance to secure a new build home with Bromford. Homebuyers pay a mortgage on the share they own and pay rent on the remaining share, meaning a smaller deposit is required.
