The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism strengthened its diversity marketing efforts by participating in the 2022 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) joint convention in Las Vegas last week.

Germany’s annual Oktoberfest festival is finally on again for this fall, following a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Oktoberfest, first held in 1810 in honor of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese, has been canceled dozens of times during its more than 200-year history due to wars and pandemics.

Dr Terrance Michael Drew has been sworn in as the fourth Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis after leading his St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) to victory in Friday’s snap general election.

The SKNLP won six of the 11 seats contested in the election held three years ahead of the constitutional deadline, with the former coalition partners, the People’s Labour Party (PLP) of outgoing prime minister Dr Timothy Harris winning one seat, the same as the People’s Action Movement (PAM) while the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) won all three seats on the sister isle.

The ‘Jamaicans to the World’ docu-series recently celebrated reaching its 100-Episode Milestone. The series which started in August 2019 explores the experiences of expatriate Jamaicans in a different country each week by asking them, "What is it like to live ‘there’ as a Jamaican?”

At least 25 people, including four children, have died in floods unleashed by torrential rains in eastern Kentucky, and more fatalities are expected, the state's governor Andy Beshear said on Saturday.

“This is still an emergency situation," Beshear told reporters. "We are in search and rescue mode. Again, that count is going to continue to go up.”

Vantage, an international multi-asset broker, has announced that it is launching a month-long donation drive in support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to help refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide.

Vantage will be matching all donations from both new and existing clients, dollar for dollar, to support humanitarian efforts undertaken by UNHCR. The donation drive will run for one month until 30 August and may be extended based on client feedback. 

In honour of World Nature Conservation Day, Coyaba Beach Resort in Grenada made a generous donation of 25 fruit trees and other vegetation to The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Eastern Caribbean Program to benefit communities in the Grenville Bay area.

Kevin Carty, a native of Anguilla, will join the upmarket Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club as general manager on September 5, 2022.

Carty joins the Salamander Hotels & Resorts family from the executive management team at Belmond Cap Juluca, where he currently serves as the Resident Manager.

As he strives to drive his country into the future of motor vehicles, Jamaican Prime Minisetr, Andrew Holness, is set to replace the current motor cars used by the government, with a fleet of EVs. Violet Edwards, 96, is reportedly the fifth-oldest person in the world to receive a degree, following her graduated from Mercy College, New York, in the US. She gained an associate’s degree and 4.0 GPA—while fighting and beating cancer.

Edwards, who now lives in Florida, was born on October 5, 1925, in Kensington, in the parish of Portland, Jamaica.

Jamaica Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, has listed tourism as one of Jamaica’s key investment priorities.

While addressing a special delegation of some 70 private sector players and government officials from Saudi Arabia, at the Jamaica-Saudi Business Luncheon held at the Port Royal Cruise Ship Pier, the Prime Minister said there are many opportunities available in Jamaica for the acquisition of lands to build hotels and resorts.
