The countdown is on for the annual fiesta of music and arts – the Lichfield Festival! 

With a spectacular 60 events taking place over 11 days, there are stellar artists from classical, folk, world, jazz, cabaret and popular music, theatre, dance and the written word. Headline artists include Seth Lakeman, The Longest Johns, Ballet Cymru’s Romeo and Juliet, award-winning sitar player Jasdeep Singh Degun, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Brodsky Quartet, ‘Queen of the qanun’ Maya Youssef, pianist and Ronnie Scott’s Artistic Director James Pearson and violinist/vocalist Lizzie Ball.

 

The Opening Night in Lichfield Cathedral features Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons played by renowned Baroque violinist Rachel Podger with her ensemble Brecon Baroque. Other highlights include an outdoor performance of the children’s classic Peter and the Wolf; Ghosts, Werewolves and Countryfolk with Jim Causley and Miranda Sykes (Show of Hands and Daphne’s Flight); wine tasting and beautiful Baroque music with Oz Clarke & Armonico Consort; jazz pianist Wendy Kirkland’s Blossom Time; and the daytime Young Artists series of superb emerging talent. 

As well as that, there are Festival Fireworks in Beacon Park and a magical candlelit concert by pianist Danny Driver in Lichfield Cathedral to close the Festival. The Lichfield Festival is on from July 4 to 14.
