Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker has made a north London pub her local after setting up home nearby.
The Hollywood A-lister and her movie star husband, Matthew Broderick, have reportedly been spotted enjoying pints at The Gatehouse in Highgate, in London. They have been seen frequently at the pub over the past week, seemingly favouring quiet corners following their West End shows.
The couple's choice of The Gatehouse as their local hangout seems to be influenced by the fact that the other customers respect their desire for privacy. Along with Parker and Broderick, The Gatehouse has also attracted other famous regulars like Liam Gallagher.
Parker, famous for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, has recently relocated to London to star in the play Plaza Suite. Not long after her arrival, she began expressing her love of the city and the London Underground.
The star said: "I want to know Jubilee, Piccadilly, Northern. I want to know Edgware.
"I want to know all of it." The actor, it seems, has been equally charmed by the pub.
The Gatehouse has transformed from its former life as a Wetherspoon pub to its current incarnation, which Sarah Jessica Parker appreciates for its Britishness. It has hosted its own theatre - Upstairs at The Gatehouse - since 1997 when it was founded by John and Katie Plews.
One pub regular said: "She seems to like how 'quaint' it is and has said she likes how British the pub feels." Plaza Suite, the production in which she and Broderick are starring, is a West End revival of a Neil Simon play that debuted on Broadway in 1968.
The play consists of three acts, each depicting the experiences of three different couples - all played by Parker and Broderick - in suite 719 at New York's Plaza Hotel. Despite the initial excitement of returning to the stage, Parker and Broderick's performances were received with mixed reviews.
Critics are divided on whether it's worth it to see the SATC star and her husband, who is returning to the West End after starring in The Starry Messenger in 2019. The website for the play, originally performed at Broadway's Plymouth Theatre in 1968, says: "A delightfully witty exploration of love and marriage, Plaza Suite had New York City audiences enchanted with its charm and its starry cast.
"Now, from January 2024, London's West End gets the chance to witness two world-class performers and Hollywood icons transform into three unique couples, each finding themselves entangled in hilariously outlandish situations within the walls of the legendary Plaza Suite hotel room."
