The deadline to enter the 2016 RICS West Midlands Awards – which are widely regarded as the regional property ‘Oscars’ - has been extended to Friday 22 January 2016. The annual awards celebrate the region’s most inspirational built initiatives and developments that provide real value to the communities they serve. In the past winners have included small projects achieved by the vision of one person, to globally recognised developments with significant budgets.

RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) took the decision to extend the deadline by one week (from 15 January) to allow those behind the region’s most inspiring projects more time to submit their entries following the Christmas break.

The awards are open to everyone working within the property profession and celebrate the talents of surveyors, property developers, engineers, planners and architects, to name just a few.

There are eight categories to enter; Community Benefit, Regeneration, Design through Innovation, Building Conservation, Residential, Commercial property, Tourism & Leisure and Infrastructure.

Entrants also are put forth for the acclaimed Project of the Year title, awarded to the scheme that demonstrates outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area. Last year the regeneration of Longbridge Town Centre won the prestigious award. The first phase of the project bought over 4000 jobs to the region that was hit hard during the recession.

Other schemes recognised at last year’s RICS West Midlands Awards include Kemball Special School in Stoke-on-Trent (Design through Innovation), Birmingham Airport Runway Extension (Infrastructure), The Coffin Works (Tourism & Leisure).

Chair of the RICS West Midlands Awards judging panel, Richard Moxon, Partner at Pennycuick Collins said: “Last year was one of our most impressive for both the volume and quality of entries.

“A lot of developments have completed over the past year so we’re anticipating another high volume of entries. Extending the deadline will give those who took a longer Christmas break, more time to submit their entry and help us raise the profile of our region’s most talented property professionals and innovative built schemes.”

The 2016 RICS West Midlands Regional Awards will be presented at a glittering black-tie ceremony on 20 May 2016 at Aston Villa Football Ground, Birmingham.

All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final in October 2016, for the chance to be crowned the overall UK winner in their respective category.
