A talented student from the Arthur Terry School has been chosen to take part in a Birmingham wide scheme to train the next generation of sports leaders and coaches. Matthew Cotter (Year 10) has been accepted into this year’s Birmingham Young Coach Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for him to join other young sports leaders / coaches from across the city to take part in training and placements in sports coaching.

On Wednesday 27 January Matthew attended the Youth Sport’s Trust ‘Step into sport’ camp which is aimed at bringing young coaches from across the city from able bodied and S.E.N.D backgrounds to work together to learn about being inclusive in their approach to coaching and sports leadership.

Matthew said: “I’m really happy to have been selected. It’s a great opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills and to work with some experienced coaches and leaders. Meeting Mel Clarke was fantastic – she’s so inspirational. I hope to be able to inspire others to success too.”

Richard Gill and Neil Warner, headteachers of the Arthur Terry School, said: “Congratulations to Matthew and everybody who was selected to take part in this fantastic initiative. This is a superb opportunity to bring forward future sports leaders and coaches and we look forward to following Matthew’s progress.”
