This year’s National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) focuses on the theme of ‘Skills for Life’, highlighting the role of apprenticeships in developing talented workforces and building invaluable skills that benefit individuals throughout the whole of their careers.

Researchers at Aston University are to take the UK a step nearer to net zero emissions by developing a better system of measuring industrial carbon dioxide. The government is giving the University £100,000 to improve measurement of CO2 streams from sites such as at power plants and factories.

The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University is to develop a comprehensive guide based on industry and academic expertise. Industrial decarbonisation will play a major role in achieving the UK’s 2050 ambitious net zero emissions target, however current measurement guidelines need to be improved.

Total People – one of the North West’s largest apprenticeship providers - is set to receive £500K from Aldi to support up to 72 new apprenticeship opportunities across multiple sectors this year. The news was welcomed by Total People during this year’s National Apprenticeship Week which celebrates apprenticeships focusing on new ‘skills for life’ – the theme of this year’s celebration.

Lambeth Council marked National Apprenticeship Week to celebrate the 1,500 residents who have gone into apprenticeships across the borough, and to open up new opportunities for local people. The Lambeth Council Skills and Employment team lea on co-ordination of a programme of activity to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), including an apprenticeship job fair at Kennington Park Job Centre and a green skills focussed event at Clapham Jobcentre.

For close to three years, Gamini Singla stayed away from friends, did not go on a vacation and avoided family meetings and celebrations. She stopped bingeing on takeaways, going to the cinema and stepped away from social media.

Instead, at her family home near the northern Indian city of Chandigarh, she woke up at the crack of dawn, pored over text books and studied for up to 10 hours a day.
