National education charity, Achievement for All, is calling for schools in the West Midlands to implement its schools programme after an independent review by PwC revealed that disadvantaged pupils from schools supported by the charity are closing the achievement gap with their peers in reading, writing and maths.

The University of Wolverhampton Race Team (UWR) has clinched second place in this year’s national F3 Cup Championship title – marginally missing out on a first place spot by 1 point! As the only University competing against 17 other teams in this season’s MSV F3 Cup, the Race Team had lead the grid after competing over the past few months at premier national venues including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donington Park and Oulton Park with the final race taking place last weekend at Snetterton 300 circuit.

Over half of parents whose children will be starting secondary school next year have now applied for a place for them – and the rest are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The deadline for applications for places for students due to start Year 7 in 2017 is the end of this month, and parents are asked to get theirs in as a matter of urgency.

The first green shoots are already emerging at John Willmott School as the popular secondary’s fresh start is planted in praise from Birmingham Education Partnership (BEP). During a visit on 22 September by BEP – an organisation of serving headteachers tasked by the local authority to oversee school improvement across the city – John Willmott was commended for making “huge improvements” and “rapid progress.”  

A make-up artist with over 20 years’ industry experience and a resident fashion and campaign artist for international bridal magazine, ‘Asiana Wedding’, visited Walsall College this week to deliver a professional masterclass to Level 2 and 3 Hair and Media Make-up students.

A student from Wolverhampton who was left partially paralysed as a result of an industrial accident has scooped a prestigious award for her outstanding achievement in adult learning. Sarah Allington, 26, won the Central England Learning for Work award at this year’s Festival of Learning. Organised by the Learning & Work Institute, the Festival showcases and celebrates the impact that learning can have on individuals, families, communities and employers.
