Youngsters can take part in a new weekly fun run around Wednesfield Park. The Wednesfield Junior Parkrun is held every Sunday morning at 9am and is suitable for children and young people aged from four to 14. The Parkrun is free and takes place over a timed 2k distance. Children are encouraged to run, jog or walk for their own enjoyment and at their own pace. Parents can also join in if they wish.

It has been launched thanks to support from the City of Wolverhampton Council's Public Health team and members of Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club, who are helping to marshal the route.

Councillor Sandra Samuels, the council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Improving the health and wellbeing of our young people is a key priority for the council and we are delighted to be supporting this new event which is both great fun and a fabulous form of exercise.”

Event Director Liz Lister said: “We had a great response to the first few events and we’re looking forward to more young people joining us over the coming weeks.

“I’d also like to thank all the volunteers who help out. Without them, it would not be possible to hold the Parkrun, so we'd really like to hear from anyone who is able to volunteer on a regular basis.”
