Going in to the weekend with their confidence in the outfit growing Jon and Andy qualified in 4th place on the grid for race 1 and after an early set of very fast laps managed to secure 3rd place on what was a very hot day.

However the weekend wasn’t without problems and the team had to change fuel pumps and their quick shifter to try and cure an engine problem which left the team down on power. Fellow sidecar competitors Simon Smith and Gary Smith generously shared their spares and their advice. As Andy explains “The sidecar racing scene is a close knit community and people are always willing to help each other out and we’re very appreciative of Gary and Simons help.”

Starting race 2, again from towards the front of the field the team again made a good start and quickly established themselves in 3rd place, which they maintained until the finish , despite the engine beginning to misfire and Andy clipping the curbs quite hard. The same events played themselves out in the 3rd race, with team bringing home another 3rd place despite worsening engine problems which left them below their true pace.

After some adjustments to the machine and help and advice again from others in the paddock, the team went into the final race of the weekend hoping to secure another solid points scoring finish, despite what appeared to be an engine that was getting worse. The race started well and the team decided to put some fast laps in at the start to pull out a gap on the rest of the field should the engine play up again. This turned out to be a wise decision because just as the team crossed the line to start their final lap the engine blew up leaving the team to coast to the side of the track.

However at the same time as the teams engine blew some fellow competitors known well to both Jon and Andy had a dramatic accident and flipped their outfit throwing the passenger across the track and trapping the driver underneath.  Both were injured, with the passenger coming off quite badly suffering several broken ribs and a broken arm.

The accident caused the race to be red flagged and declared a result at the end of the last lap–which meant that Andy and Jon were very fortunate to claim their fourth 3rd place from the weekend.
