TV presenter Sameena Ali-Khan has launched ‘Breaking into News’ an initiative to find the region’s broadcast journalist of the future. The ITV Central star is urging young people with little or no experience of journalism to use the initiative to gain invaluable journalism experience. Breaking into News, developed by communications charity Media Trust and ITV News and ITN, will give a young person the unique opportunity to work with a top broadcast journalist and to create a special news report that may even be shown on ITV Central.

The initiative, now in it’s fifth year, is designed to promote diversity in broadcast journalism and is open to 18-25 year olds across the county with limited or no previous experience in journalism.

Sameena Ali-Khan, Presenter, ITV Central, said: “Breaking into News gives young people a chance to join a very competitive industry and get fantastic training and experience in how the news in their area is covered. I would urge young people who dream about reading the news on TV to get one step closer to turning dream into reality by entering Breaking into News. It's a great start to a great career.”

The successful Breaking into News regional finalist will work with a journalist to create a news report for ITV Central. Along with eight finalists from ITV news regions across England and Wales they will present their final news report to a judging panel of well known journalists from ITV and Media Trust. One lucky finalist will be presented with an Apple iPad Mini 2 and be given the opportunity to spend the day with the team producing ITV News at Ten.

The closing date for entries is Monday 7th March 2016 at midday and budding journalists can enter and find full terms and conditions at www.breakingintonews.co.uk.
