As thousands of students anxiously await their A-level and T-level results this week, two apprentices who chose not to go to university have told how undertaking an alternative route for their careers has provided “incredible opportunities”.  

A-level results, which often determine what university students can go to, or what job they can get, will be revealed on Thursday (August 17). It comes as exam officials are trying to bring results in line with pre-pandemic levels, after grades were given a boost during the coronavirus pandemic. 

Adult Education Wolverhampton is holding a series of open days in August and September and is inviting prospective students to find out more about the courses which will be on offer this autumn. They include Access to Higher Education, Teaching Skills, Skills for Work and Self-employment, English, Maths, Health and Social Care, Computer and Digital Skills, Business and Retail Skills, Children and Teaching Assistants, Cake Decorating and Sugar Craft, Arts Crafts and Creative Media, and more.

Students collecting their GCSE, A-level and other results this month are being wished the very best of luck. Thousands of students in Wolverhampton are due to find out what grades they have achieved when A-level results are published on Thursday (17 August), followed by GCSE results next Thursday 24 August.

Councillor Chris Burden, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "I'd like to wish everyone collecting their GCSE, A-level and other results over the next couple of weeks the very best of luck.

The cost of school uniform can be daunting and is yet another financial pressure on many parents during the current cost of living crisis, so the council has joined forces with a local church this summer to help.

St Columba’s United Reformed Church has been running a uniform swap shop since the summer of 2019, when it started with just a few rails of clothing, but by last summer was handling 1.1 tonnes of clothing. The City of Wolverhampton Council has partnered with St Columba’s to help even more families this summer by enabling parents and children to drop off unwanted uniforms at Yo! Wolves events throughout the summer holidays.

TikTok influencer Poku Banks has teamed up with Birmingham City University (BCU) to provide his top ten hacks to navigate the cost-of-living crisis – as new research shows that 58% of prospective students want information about financial support. As thousands of young people across the United Kingdom prepare for their next steps after ‘Results Day’ (17th August), BCU has enlisted Banks, the popular personal finance expert, to offer support and reassurance to anyone anxious about budgeting. 

The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has allocated $5 million for its five-year Young Leaders program to develop leadership skills among school students in Grades 5-11 in Kazakhstan. Throughout the school year, the students attend elective classes, and participate in monthly mini-conferences and specialised training sessions.

They also learn to use their soft skills, including leadership, critical thinking, communications, public speaking, teamwork, project management and negotiation. To date, more than 24,000 students from 110 participating schools have completed the Foundation's leadership training courses.
